NEW YORK, NY, February 18, 2011, Dr. Martha Eddy, Director of Moving On Center-NY School for Participatory Arts and Somatic Research, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in the provision of holistic methods to overcome or relieve tension in movement disorders. Her work also serves to enhance physical expression in the general public and those involved with cancer care, neurological disorders, autism, attention deficit disorder, and back pain.

Dr. Eddy, MA, CMA, RSMT is an exercise physiologist, and registered movement therapist (RSMT), who also has a doctorate from Columbia University in Movement Science and Education. She works in private practice in New York City. She was certified in somatic movement work with Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and Irmgard Bartenieff, and was on the certification program faculty for both the School for Body-Mind Centering® and the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies from 1984 to 1994. She founded the Somatic Movement Therapy Program (SMTT) in 1992 and renamed it Dynamic Embodiment-SMTT in 2008. Dr. Eddy is particularly known for somatic-movement-based contributions in the fields of dance, dance science, conflict resolution, child development, and vision enhancement. She completed her doctorate in 1998, her master of art in applied physiology in 1985 (Columbia University), and her bachelor of arts in dance education at Hampshire College. She also holds lymphatic drainage certification and was certified by the National Certification Board for Massage and Bodywork in 1990.

Dr. Eddy was the invited speaker at the National Dance Education Organization to give the address on the state of Early Childhood Dance Education at the 2009 national conference. In her position as Founder and Director of the DE-SMTT program she coordinates Moving On Center’s somatic curriculum and works closely with its faculty and mentors around the world. She recently had a chapter about her research in violence prevention published in Dance: Current Selected Research with AMS Press. She is working on a book now. She has been involved with dance and performance since she was eight years old. She also directs the Center for Kinesthetic Education (www.WellnessCKE.net) where clients of all ages come for classes and private sessions, and professional teachers and therapists come for training. She is involved in research, arts-based educational program designs, and educational consulting nationally and internationally. She has published numerous articles on these subjects. She created BodyMind Dancing© in 1987 and Moving On Aerobics© (MOA) in 1999.

Dr. Eddy is a board member of The Yard, a founding member of the International Association for Dance Medicine & Science, and former president of the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association. She is listed in Who's Who Among American Women. She volunteers her time to the New York Theological Seminary, The Yard Dance Residency, the Natural Dance Education Organization, and Global Water Dances.

Looking ahead, Dr. Eddy intends to brand products for public use and have contracts for her Movement for Life dance-exercise programs in hospitals, and in schools with The Center for Kinesthetic Education.
